Matthew Perry has revealed that personal wealth is one of the most important assets he looks for in a romantic partner.
The 53-year-old actor told People magazine that after many of his relationships failed because the women he was dating were only interested in his money, he decided to find love with a woman who had wealth of her own.
“The next person I’m really serious about is someone I’m going to fall in love with and not be afraid of the things that scare me… someone who’s self-supporting. In every way, but especially financially, because I got it. I got burned a few times by women who wanted my money without really paying attention to me,” he explained.

When asked about any dating deal breakers, Perry doubled down on her conviction. “People I’m starting to think are in it for the money. It happens more often than you think. Someone who has their own wealth is a big factor for me.”
Matthew Perry opens up about why he never found love and why he only dates rich women
Beverly Hills-based celebrity matchmaker and dating expert Alessandra Conti told Fox News Digital that Perry’s fear of hooking up with women who don’t have pure intentions is common among celebrities and high-powered men who seek her services.
She explained that most of her clients are not just looking to find love, but specifically to weed out any women who only want their money.
“I also like that he specifically uses the phrase ‘self-supporting,'” Conti added of Perry. “Generally, men at the top of their careers, which of course come with financial wealth, want a woman who is a combination. A woman who brings femininity, care, warmth and passion into their lives.”
Conti explained that a partner for a celebrity comes from a certain level of wealth. “So she or he is not completely shocked or obsessed with the lifestyle or completely put off or mesmerized by it,” she said.

“But I love matching public figures with grounded people,” she added. “Grounded men and women who live full lives, have passions beyond relationships, even if it’s a kindergarten teacher. It doesn’t matter what the job is, but where are the values?”
Once considered a lifelong bachelor, George Clooney has met his match in wife Amal Alamuddin, an international human rights lawyer who has built her own successful practice representing high-profile clients including Julian Assange and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
The two bonded over their dedication to fighting for human rights around the world and co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016.
In addition to using matchmaking companies like hers, Conti said, celebrities often meet successful and wealthy partners through volunteering or attending high-end events and galas.

Miranda Kerr was first introduced to billionaire Snap CEO Evan Spiegel at a Louis Vuitton event in New York City in 2014. The couple, who have been married since 2017, have two sons.
In addition to Hayek and Kerr, several female celebrities have dated or married billionaires, including Janet Jackson, Elle Macpherson, and Mariah Carey. Conti shared her insight into why famous women are more likely than their male counterparts to choose wealthy partners.
“I think more female celebrities are more attracted to men who come from very powerful economic backgrounds because that provider dynamic, protector provider dynamic, is incredibly attractive to a woman, even quote. Not quote an alpha female or a woman who is a public figure or a celebrity,” she said. .
“Often when they’re in their day jobs, they’re active, they’re the leader. But when they’re in their romantic partnership, they want to exercise their femininity.”

In recent years, many celebrities have turned to dating apps to find relationships. An exclusive members-only dating app for celebrities and influencers, Raya is especially popular among stars looking to find love with partners who have achieved a certain level of wealth, status and fame.
Drew Barrymore, Channing Tatum, Demi Lovato, Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Rodrigo are the stars who tried to find love in Raya.
Barrymore said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in 2020 that swiping through Raya was like “looking through a magazine.”
“I did horribly, too. I got up and I didn’t match up with anyone,” she admitted to Cohen, herself a Raya user.

She continued, “My friends gave me this kind of false confidence. They were like, ‘You have to try this. You’ll do well.’ It was a car wreck.”
However, Raya boasts some success stories. In March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, Olympian Simone Biles met her fiancé, Houston Texans safety Jonathan Owens, on the app.
The NFL star later admitted he “hadn’t heard” the four-time Olympic gold medalist when he first competed.
“I don’t know who she is,” Owens told Texas magazine in June 2021. “I had never heard of her, and when I told her that, it was one of the things she liked.”
The two went public with their relationship in August 2020 and announced their engagement last February.

“Real Housewives of Orange County” alum Meghan King and President Joe Biden’s nephew Cuff Biden Owens’ short-lived romance began in September 2021 after meeting on the app. The two got married three weeks later but broke up after two months of marriage. .
Regardless of how they meet, Conti told Fox News Digital that she believes celebrities like Perry prioritize strong values over financial considerations when it comes to dating.
“I know what Matthew is expressing, and I think it’s a little misguided to look for an unquote, rich woman,” she said. “So what I’ve found is that women who have successful marriages and partnerships with high-achieving men, they’re not necessarily billionaires, but they have a strong family-oriented value system.”
She continued, “It’s based on relationships and friendships and experiences. So that’s where he really needs to prioritize. He needs to prioritize meeting women who aren’t financially motivated. I think that’s what he’s trying to convey.”
